In the 90's, or the Belle Epoch Era, fashion once more moved away from the bustle and the skirts became bell shaped, hence the name of the era. Skirts were of an exaggerated A-line that moved away from the body towards the hem of the skirts. To maintain the shape of the skirt, most of them had horse hair braid sewn in the hems of the skirts in addition to very full and flouncey petticoats. In the middle of the 90's, the sleeves became huge---almost balloon like---before they once again became a normal size towards the end. The bodices themselves transformed in the latter half of the era to give the wearer a "pigeon breast" look, ushering in the Gibson Girl era. Here in this photo, I am dressed as a nurse from 1896-----notice the sleeves. As I mentioned on my home page, I am a cowboy action shooter and this is one of my shooting outfits. It took me about 2 years to research the uniform to get it as accurate as I could, right down to the MOP buttons with the metal shanks and pins. You can read about my research for this dress in the Articles. This dress was featured in SHOOT! Magazine, and showcased just how much work I put into the garment including designing my own apron so that it wouldn't interfere with my gun rig. There are a lot of lady CAS's out there that love the 90's style clothing because they can dress up but the attire doesn't interfere with their shooting. Wearing this uniform, I can second that.
